Ayesha Sheikh

Ayesha Sheikh is a passionate filmmaker, based in Montreal, whose approach combines technical precision with poetic sensitivity. For her, each film is a space of exploration an opportunity to tell bold, distinctive, and unapologetic stories. Driven by a sharp curiosity, she seeks to expand the collective imagination and diversify representation by delving into the blurred lines of identity. Her path is grounded in over ten years of experience as an assistant director, before making a clear transition into independent filmmaking through her training at INIS (Mixed Program) and the growing recognition of her work as a director. Her short film Not Today, selected at RVQC 2024, affirms a voice that is irreverent and feminine. Her short documentary Parc-Ex au coeur de MTL was presented at over fifteen festivals and earned her the Best Emerging Talent Award from Cinéma sous les étoiles. Her web series De mensonges et d'eau fraîche has already won an award at the 2024 Melbourne WebFest. Ayesha now continues her work as a writer-director with a strong desire to tell stories differently and to collaborate with artists who share her vision of a cinema that is free, daring, and grounded in reality.
