Henry Andrawes

An Arab actor and scriptwright, who is considered one of the most prominent actors with a distinguished style that enables him to play different characters between drama and comedy in Theater, Cinema, and Television. He is one of the founders of "Khashabi Theater" in Haifa in 2014.

Family: Henry was born on June 25, 1986, in the village of Tarshiha, located in the foothills of the Upper Galilee Mountains, to a family with a father and mother who are relatives: "Albert" and "Hanaa". He has a brother four years younger than him: "Rony", and a sister ten years younger than him: "Tamara", married to "Mona" and has two children: "Albert" junior and "Shams". Andrawes growing up in a musical home; in addition to his father working as a nurse, he was also a Ney player, which led him to grow up in the rehearsal halls of the "Tarshiha Arabic Music Ensemble".

Searching Journey: He finished school in 2003, then he enrolled in a computer programming college and finished his first year there with excellence, however, the magic of the theater kept attracting him so he decided to quit his studies. He worked in many different jobs; in each job he did well and felt that he had found the career he loved. Andrawes realized that acting was the job that offers him the ultimate space that could enable him to play among all these "roles" and professions.

Academy: He received his BA in Acting and Theater Directing with distinction from the Department of Theater and Arts at Haifa University in 2009. Later in 2023, he joined the faculty staff of the same department at Haifa University. He taught Acting and then wrote and directed the play "POV" based on "Macbeth" with students of the theater department.

Khashabi Theater: During his academic study, Andrawes founded a theater group with his classmates called "Khashabi Ensemble", which later became "Khashabi Theater" in 2014, located in Haifa's Wadi Al-Salib neighborhood. Today, "Khashabi Theater" is considered one of the most important theaters, and Andrawes is a mainstay. He and his crew have toured locally and internationally and have performed at major theater festivals such as Avenue Festival, Théâtre de la Ville, and Romaeuropa Festival.

Cinema: Andrawes is best known for the movie "Inbetween" (2016)- directed by Maysaloun Hammoud, which caused quite a stir due to its boldness in tackling thorny topics in Arab society. He also participated in the film "The Savior" (2012) which deals with the life of Jesus Christ- directed by Victor Savo. "The Angel" (2018)- directed by Ariel Vromen. "From the Diary of a House-divider" (2024)- directed by Dover Kosashvili.

Television: He participated in television works such as: "Caught in the Net" (2014), "Fauda-2" (2018), "Menayec-3" (2024), and then participated in the international series "Band of Spies" (2025) which deals with the Black September case- directed by Lawrence Guth and produced by Paramount. In 2021, he joined the satirical program "Al-Shosmo" as both a scriptwright and actor. The program was a huge success and became one of the most important satirical programs in the country. Andrawes distinguished himself by playing completely different characters, including political, international, and local famous personages, which earned him greater fame and consequently it became the most-watched program for four consecutive seasons. In 2024, he was chosen to be the official voice of the Arabic version program "Come Dine With Me".

Collaborative Writing: In 2021, in partnership with director and writer Firas Roby, Andrawes wrote the musical "The Maestro", in which the narrated text became an integral part of the Arab classical music pieces, creating a different situation in the musical and artistic cultural scene. In 2024, Andrawes's first feature film, "The Greys", was completed in partnership with Roby.

Theater: Some of his most important theater works are directed and written by Bashar Murkus: "The Museum" (2019), "The Cabaret" (2018), "Hash"- mono drama and "Other Places" (2017), "The Year of Snow" (2016), "1945" (2015), "Parallel Timeline" (2014), "A New Middle East" and "Bird Logic" (2013), "The Bilibilible" and "Aswat" (2011). "Al-Taghriba" (2013) directed by Amer Hlehel, "Azza" (2016) directed by Amir Nizar Zoabi, "Rashomon Gate" (2014) directed by Yukari Sakata, "Haddi Al-Qawafil" (2014) directed by Nabil Azar, "Poison of Thyme" (2012) directed by Firas Roby, in which he won the Best Actor Award at the "Acre Fringe Theater Festival", "The Optimists" (2012) directed by Ido Shaked and produced by the Theatro desulie in Paris, and "The Servant of Two Masters" (2011) directed by Mounir Bakri.

In 2019, after the birth of their eldest son, Andrawes and his wife returned from Haifa, where they had lived for nearly eleven years, to his beloved village of Tarshiha. As of 2024, Andrawes is 38 years old, eleven years of marriage, father of two children, and continues to work regularly in the field of arts, between acting and writing in film, theater, and television.
