Tina Mba is a cornerstone of Nigerian theatre and film, renowned for her versatility, depth, and enduring presence across three decades. Trained both in Nigeria (IMT Enugu) and abroad (Kilburn Polytechnic, London), she began her journey in theatre before transitioning seamlessly into television and Nollywood cinema. Tina launched her career co-producing Shakespeare's As You Like It (1989) with ABC Productions-a professional debut that led to a string of acclaimed stage works including Iphigenia Meets Aiyelala, A Husband's Wife, Unstable, The Walking Stick, The Visit of Bishop Alaba, Toy Soldier and Boy Soldier. Her peers widely acknowledge her as a theatre icon who embodied discipline, research-based preparation, and respect for the craft-values she upheld even when Nollywood's home-video boom drew most contemporaries away from the stage.
Her screen debut dates back to early popular TV series such as Everyday People, Under the Siege, Hotel Majestic, and Desperate Housewives Africa. She is known for inhabiting roles deeply-building backstories, imbuing even supporting characters (typically maternal figures) with nuance, realism, and emotional weight. A firm believer in professional integrity, Tina has continued to produce theatre while advocating for respect and fair treatment of actors on set. In interviews, she emphasizes ongoing skills sharpening, commitment to character research, and industry mentorship. Her longevity is attributed to staying true to the craft, refusing to chase trends, and adapting without compromising quality.
